It Was a Pretty Good Weekend

December 1st, 2009 · No Comments · Holidays, What I Did Last Weekend

Five days off!  I had five days off, all in a row!

And I didn’t have any place to go!

That was really quite a weekend.  Even the dog was like, “What?  Don’t you have someplace to be?”  But I didn’t have any place to be.

Well, I wasn’t completely nonproductive.  I had to put some pictures together for an exhibit in Jeff City with the photo club, and then deliver them.  When I was down there on Saturday, I stopped by an antique mall that Tracy and I frequented last fall.  Between the two of us, we bought several pieces of furniture there this year, so I consider it one of the better antique malls in the area.  This visit was no exception- I scored a 1977 Mizzou football souvenir glass, which, unbelievably, finishes off my collection.  (Inherited collection- I did none of the work, but I do like having them.)  I had a glass from each year between 1966 and 1978 except 1977 (the year I was born).  Now I have that missing one!  Very exciting.

What else did I do?  Thanksgiving, obviously.  I made sweet potatoes and Tofurky for Thanksgiving, and spent Thursday hanging out with family.  I went to the dog park a number of times.  I completely and totally avoided Black Friday shopping.  On Saturday night, I went out to see some live music, for the first time in forever, and immediately decided that I should do it more often.

And I celebrated my birthday.  My family took me out for lunch on Sunday, and then we all went, impromptu, to a showing of The Fantastic Mr. Fox, which everyone liked.  Nice!

I watched a ton of movies this weekend.  A lot of movies.  Only one of them was an AFI movie, Mutiny on the Bounty (1935 version with Clark Gable).  It was only available at Ninth Street Video on VHS, so I went up to watch it with my parents because I haven’t had a VCR in several years.  It was probably the best movie I saw all weekend, which shouldn’t be a surprise.  I guess I wasn’t expecting something quite so powerful, but I was wrong.  Anyway, I’m behind on my AFI-movie-watching and book-reading this quarter, so I have to get busy if I’m going to finish my resolutions.  I probably won’t.  Urgh.

So, anyway, it was a good weekend.  I didn’t do half of what I was supposed to do, and somehow that was just fine.

But now I feel like I’m behind, so I will spend the rest of the week trying to catch up.
