Other Updates
I can’t tell whether my earlier entry is just that unreadable, or if it’s my weirdly tired but overslept mindset today.
Anyway, last week in the airport, I couldn’t help but notice how many people were walking barefoot through airport security after slipping off their summer shoes, and wonder how many of those same people would obsessively use shower shoes in a public bathroom.
I hate how the airport is. I mean, I get it, yes, we want to be safe, but I feel very exposed when stripping off cardigan, belt, and shoes before entering the metal detector, but somehow even more exposed having to dress myself after making it through security. There’s just something about putting on a belt in public that seems out-of-place, you know? Taking it off is a matter of milliseconds, but threading it slowly back through the loops feels weirdly intimate in such a public place. I try to ignore any onlookers, but they’re there. And sometimes you come out of airport security right in the middle of several gates, rather than in a special part reserved for security, so people are just sitting there, waiting, nothing else to do but watch you make your adjustments.
But, anyway, I have to wear belts now, because I have lost weight. I met my first weight loss goal! I’m not going to tell you how much I weigh, but the goal was to get to a number I haven’t seen in 10 years. In total, it’s about a 25-lb weight loss. I’m not done yet, I hope, but this was my first goal and made me feel better about my diet on vacation last week. (I was pretty good, overall, but I didn’t journal obsessively and there were a couple of big eating days in there.)
In addition, my sister and I will celebrate our first year anniversary of regular morning gym-going next week. It’s pretty awesome. And it’s been interesting to see the changes in the amount of daylight at 5:45am all through the year. This time of year, the sun is almost up, but we were doing this last December when it was completely dark even after we’d had our full gym routine and then returned home again.
On Monday, while waiting for the satellite tv technician, I managed to get outside and do some long-overdue weeding in the front yard, and I made good progress with it, too. It’s been rainy in the afternoons since then, but I would like to do some more. I am shooting a wedding on Saturday this weekend, and I might need to drive over to the location tomorrow and stay overnight, but maybe I will take a break from working on photos on Sunday afternoon to do some work on the flowerbeds in the backyard too. I figure if I can tackle one a week in the next few weeks, I will actually make some progress. Some of them are so overgrown that it is embarrassing. I can’t even get to the bird feeders on the north side of the house because the weeds are so insane there.
