California Closure

May 20th, 2009 · No Comments · Photography

I am finally feeling a sense of closure about the California pictures.  A well-deserved sense of closure, even though I’m not really finished with the pictures.  I haven’t touched hundreds and hundreds of them, actually.  But I won’t be able to work on them for weeks, at least.  Even if I start to work on them again, I don’t know that I will be able to top this sense of accomplishment.

I finished the slideshow presentation and got to show it at photo club last night.  It went so well!  It was Show and Tell night, and lots of members brought stuff to show, but it was mostly recent work.  Mine was 14 months in the making, and I think it stood out as a highlight of the evening… not to toot my own horn, but yeah, it went well.  Some of the great photographers of that club really complimented me in ways that made me feel like they hadn’t exactly taken me seriously up until now, but that presentation changed their minds.  Which is pretty awesome, proving myself.

Anyway, today I put the presentation up on YouTube today, with annotations (which can be turned off if they’re annoying) and different music (because of copyright issues, but I heartily recommend the Grateful Dead’s “Ripple” if you’re looking for a soundtrack.  Play it on repeat.  I can’t tell you how much I love this song.)

I’m embedding it here, but you can watch it on HD at the YouTube site.  Here’s the link:

In addition, or maybe in lieu of watching the video above, you can go to my Flickr site and browse all of the pictures from this trip (the video doesn’t have everything) there.

This was my first experience with ProShow Gold, and I’m not a fan of how difficult it is to burn a stupid DVD.  It is also my first upload to YouTube.  We’ll see how I like it if I try to do this stuff in the future.

Yay, closure!  And yay for happy memories of that fantastic trip.  God, it was lovely.  I would go back there anytime.  Tomorrow would be fine.  Oh, you want to give me a job and an apartment so I can live there full-time?  Sure, when can I move in?
