Watching old Beastie Boys videos on YouTube, reading the comments, and feeling old.
Not that that’s new news. I guess I’ll be happy to see the 90s come back ironically in a few years so that I can be cool with my enjoyment of early hip-hop. Meanwhile, I’m ok with my status as an old. Technically, I’m so retro it’s cool, right? No? Ok, that’s fine.
We are off to St. Louis tonight and our flight to DC is early tomorrow morning. Whirlwind- we’ll be back Sunday evening. This is for Tracy’s sister’s wedding, which is tomorrow night in a NoVA suburb of DC. It should be a fun casual thing.
I am a crazy weirdo, because I am second-guessing my outfit after all that crap of buying the dress, etc. And I’m still going to bring it, but I’m also going to bring a backup in case I feel a little anxious about wearing the dress after all. Because I’m crazy.
And anyway, the backup outfit includes pants that don’t fit right anymore, because hardly any of my pants fit right anymore. I’ve lost weight! Enough that I have to get my pants taken in! Though that sucks, because I don’t have many pants that fit and I’m not sure I’m ready to commit to having them resized permanently, you know? What if I gain it all back? They say you should throw out all the bigger sizes right away, so you’re not tempted to go back to the old sizes, but I’m a bet-hedging kind of person.
I told you. I’m crazy.
We are leaving after work for StL with the evening goal of the City Museum, which is exciting. We’ve been talking about going to the St. Louis City Museum for years and years, and it’s just never worked out. But it’s a cool place, open late, so we are going tonight after we check in at our airport hotel and find some dinner.
Meanwhile, what has been fairly mild weather all week is apparently going to turn into a wild blizzard tomorrow. I will park in a garage for the weekend, but fuck if I’m going to believe the hype after a winter of nothing. And of course, if it does come, it’ll be this weekend when I won’t be around to enjoy it.
What else am I doing? I am admiring photos of my couch, which I bought early this week. We had to rearrange a bunch of furniture so that I could get it in the house instead of letting it take up my car’s valuable space in the garage. Now we have three couches in the living room. But I might go ahead and get it re-upholstered now while I don’t need it, and then get it back when the cats are out of the house. I would love to find a medium blue/green stripe for it, though I wonder if that will be stripe overkill with the two neutral-stripe chairs that I bought. Oh well, oh well. I don’t want to go for a solid color (the pet hair becomes too, too obvious) and I’m not much for other patterns, but a nice stripe would be cool if it hewed close to modern lines. I’ll have to see what I can get. My idea is to redo a big part of the living room- painting the red wall a darker beige, repainting the trim to be a brighter white, and using mostly blues and greens in the room with a few pops of red (being that red is unavoidable in my life- it’s always my favorite color). We will see how much of that I actually do.
I keep looking at photos posted to the Mid-Century Modern Interiors group on Flickr. Like candy! You like that? How about this one: Atomic Ranch! I have wanted to own a 1950s style ranch house for a long time. There aren’t that many in Columbia, so that dream will have to be fulfilled elsewhere. Someday!
And… blogs! Retro Renovation is fun. (Save the pink bathrooms!) I am also a new fan of BackGarage. I think I’m going to try to hit up some major garage sales this year. I have the motivation, and so much of my favorite stuff came from Columbia garage sales when I was in college.
Gah. An afternoon of random YouTube videos, and I’ve bought four used CDs on Amazon. (For pennies, but still.) It’s not helping that I’ve been ripping my entire CD collection to Tracy’s computer in the past week, and I’ve been finding some old stuff in there. Good fun.
