I Was Not Ready for the Football

Tracy and I went over to my parents’ house last night to ‘watch’ the Super Bowl.  I think Tracy may have actually seen a few plays.  I couldn’t get into it, and read several magazines instead.  Then I combed through some old stuff that my mom kept (because my mom keeps everything!) to find out the names of some old computer games that we used to play when we were kids.  They were driving me crazy.  I did so many web searches, to no avail.

But Mom had kept manuals and boxes and even cheat sheets, ones we’d made up ourselves after we’d gone through the game.

Our favorites from the time (late 1980s to early 1990s) were, hands down, Conquests of the Longbow and Conquests of Camelot.  We never had the latest and greatest of gaming gear, much like now, but I guess we’ve always liked to collect the older games and equipment and then play it when everyone else was on to the new big things.  In this case, everyone had Nintendo at that time except us, but we had a great time with these games.  The game I was trying to find was, apparently, Quest for Glory II: Trial by Fire.  I remembered the manual but could not think of the name.

Some of these games are available for download now, if you run a DOS emulator.  I played a few hours’ of Conquests of the Longbow maybe six months ago.  It was pretty fun.

Anyway, I didn’t really care about the Super Bowl and I didn’t really care about the commercials, but my mother loves Bruce Springsteen so we did sit and watch the halftime show.

It was gorgeous here on Saturday.  My thermometer read 65 degrees in the early afternoon, though the local weather station told me the temps at the time were at least ten degrees lower.  But it was gorgeous.  I took Martha to the dog park and then she got another bath.  I threw her outside for several hours to dry off, and she had a nice time just sitting on the grass, feeling warm in the sun.  Then I brushed her.  The hair, oh god the hair- it was unbelievable.  It seems too early to be shedding that much.
