Long Weeks and Soon-to-be-Weekends

January 9th, 2009 · No Comments · Endless Blathering

My new laptop shipped yesterday, and FedEx says it’s on track to be delivered tomorrow.  But I didn’t know that FedEx delivered to residences on Saturdays, so I chose to have it delivered to work, which won’t be open tomorrow.  I’m confused.  I don’t even think FedEx does deliver tomorrow, so I have my hopes all up for no good reason because I didn’t even expect it until the end of next week.  Hrumph.

This has been such a long week without a (real) computer at home.  Luckily, I’ve had a project to distract me right after work: I have a new group of photos to display as part of the Columbia Art League Community Artists Program, and I’ve been framing them every night.  There’s this awesome place in town where you can do all the labor and just pay for the supplies (I did finally overhear that they have a charge for the use of the place and the tools and their experience, which is good because I have been taking advantage of that this week).  I framed ten pictures last summer, but I did it in such a way that I can take apart the frames and put in different pictures.  I decided to keep the mats with the original set, and then box them and label them so that I can use them again, and then use new mats for the new photos.

I put the new photos in a set on Flickr.  Actually, they’re not new- I shot them last April in Big Sur, then processed them in August, and reprocessed them in December.  I think I like them, but I get so awfully picky about my photos when they’re printed.  I can nitpick them to death.  Except for the one I’ve got pictured here in this post- it’s my absolute favorite, it turned out so well in August that I didn’t bother reprocessing it in December, and it looks really amazing matted and framed.

I think if it wasn’t for Frame It Right, I’m not sure I would be doing this display stuff with the Columbia Art League.  Matting and framing is so expensive otherwise.  And my house is so not good for assembling that stuff, anyway, with the cats everywhere, and the cat hair, which just gets into everything.  I wish they were open a little later- they’re only open until 6pm, and it takes some time to pull the frames apart and put them back together, so I was there for three nights back-to-back this week.

The pictures go up today, but they’re at an insurance company so they aren’t really viewable for the public.  I think I lucked out by having my first display at the Columbia Mall.  It might not have been good for sales or whatever, but my family and friends could stop by and check them out at their leisure, and they didn’t have to feel weird about it.

This weekend should be good and productive.  Tracy is making noises about seeing a movie, but I might skip that, depending on the movie she picks.  There are a few things that I want to see, but no burning desire to go to the theater to see them.  They’re all on my ‘to rent someday’ list.  Instead, I have plenty of TV-on-DVD to watch, and lots of work, and lots of laundry, and that will all be nice.
