Christmas Eve

December 24th, 2008 · No Comments · Endless Blathering

It’s Christmas Eve!  It doesn’t feel like it, though.  Sorry.  I am all befuddled because of how our plans have been made this year.

We are going up to my parents’ house later today for dinner and then we’ll stay on for a little while.  Tracy has to work tomorrow, and she’s acting like it’s the end of the world, but we don’t really have anything going on tomorrow anyway and it’s her second-to-last call ever.  Ever!  So she can handle it.

I have a lot of cooking to do for tomorrow.  I’m supposed to make spinach tofu lasagna for lunch at my parents’ house, and then vegetable soup for tomorrow night at my grandparents’ house.  Someone (me) forgot that I’m not much of a cook.  I can handle the spinach tofu lasagna- I’ve made it several times- but I have never made soup from scratch before.  I have a stack of vegetarian cookbooks, and I did locate a recipe that looks easy enough.  I guess I’ll put it all together tomorrow morning or something.  Hmm.

So I’ll go to the grocery store later today and buy up the ingredients.  Nothing like Christmas dinner shopping on Christmas Eve!  But then I have a coworker who does all her Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve.  I will never understand how she doesn’t lose her mind over that.  I was frustrated with myself for not getting it all done before Thanksgiving this year!

And then I’m back to work on Friday, so it’s not much of a holiday.  I used to take a lot more time for the holidays when I lived in DC and drove back to Missouri every Christmas, but I never have to take much vacation time now that I live so close to everyone.  I guess I get to save it for those fabulous vacations that I’ve been taking for the past couple of years.  I never got to take fabulous vacations when I lived in DC.  It was weekends to New York or day trips to the beach, and the rest of my vacation was saved for Missouri trips.  It is better to live somewhere cheap and close to the people you love, I think, than live somewhere expensive and spend all your money and vacation time going home.  I was just thinking the other day that I would like to plan a trip to Europe or somewhere abroad for spring of 2010.  Unthinkable if I was still in DC.

A happy holiday to you!
