Hi hi hi! Hi!
It’s November! It’s my birthday month!
It’s November! November, November, November!!! My! Birthday! Is! Soon!
Feel free to email me for my address so you can send me presents through the mail. Or cash. Send cash, if you like.
Well, ok, I’m a little scared of my birthday this month. I went through a lot of shit when I turned 30, and now that I’m okay with being 30, I’m not sure I’m ready to be 31. But I’m going to be 31 at the end of the month, whether I like it or not. It’s coming.
I had a good weekend. How was yours? The Halloween party was good fun. I bought way too much candy- not only did we not give it all away, but we didn’t manage to eat it all in one weekend either. That is a lot of candy. Next year I need to take it easy, I think. Anyway, we were so busy chatting that we didn’t watch The Nightmare Before Christmas at all. We just talked and ate our chili dogs and the candy, and we answered the door to the neighborhood trick o’treaters, all of whom were adorable as hell. We shut off the lights at 9:00pm and that was that!
Yeah, I’m an old lady who goes to bed early on Halloween. Well, mostly because I had to work on Saturday!
The wedding with Silver Box Photographers went great, and I’m looking forward to shooting with the photographer again this coming Saturday. It was at the Chaumette Winery outside of Ste. Genevieve, in the rolling hills not far from Farmington. It was totally peak for the autumn leaves there, and the weather was gorgeous, and the wedding party was in excellent spirits, and it all went down just swimmingly. This was the first wedding I’ve shot that included alcohol (so I broke that streak), and it was a good party because the family of the bride & groom included several musicians, all of whom performed at the reception. That really gets the people out on the floor!
I made some cash, which was awesome, but on the way to Ste. Genevieve, I stopped at Schillers Camera in St. Louis and blew a lot on a new lens (which I used all weekend), so overall I lost some on the weekend. But that new lens, which I’ve been wanting for awhile and put off because I got an ‘event lens’ instead, is awesome. A real asset.
I spent the night in Farmington and drove through the St. Francois Mountains yesterday morning. I did fuck up because of the time change. I wanted to be up an hour before the sunrise, but ended up waking just as the sun was rising, which sucked! But I think I got some beautiful light, and the leaves were definitely peaking, and it was a pretty day for a pretty drive. I started off at Elephant Rocks State Park, then tried Johnsons Shut-Ins (but it was closed for restoration), then went to the top of Taum Sauk and climbed the fire tower. All of that is right in the same area. After the light was too bright for good pictures, I started driving north towards home and stopped at the Dillard Mill. Just about as I hit Dillard, the leaves began to be obviously past peak. It was almost as if there was a line drawn: here be peak leaves, here be past peak. I stopped at Dillard Mill anyway, because it was interesting, and I even paid the $2.50 for the tour where I learned a lot about grist mills. I’d love to be there early in the morning sometime, but it’s a long drive from here for that. Next summer, I swear I’m going to take a couple of days and stay down there. That part of the state is really gorgeous.
I got home around 5:00pm, so it was a full weekend of driving and shooting. A beautiful weekend. I couldn’t have picked better weather. Well, maybe a few more clouds yesterday morning, but I don’t want to be picky.
And now I gear up for tomorrow, which I’m taking off work to canvass for Obama! I’m very excited. I don’t know what I’m going to do with my time if I’m not glued to Politico and CNN. Maybe I’ll have to take up another hobby!
However, I was pissed when I went outside this morning and found that some little asshole stole the Obama sign from my front yard. When it was lighter, it became apparent that all the signs on the street were gone, both pro-Obama and pro-McCain, so there are probably a lot of angry voters on my street today. Even that weird Palin for VP sign was missing. I’m sure we were hit by some feuding Young Democrats and Young Republicans or some shit, but I’m mad because I paid for that sign. My sister was not sympathetic once I mentioned that I had two backup Obama signs waiting in the kitchen, but still! Not cool. That was my sign.

That is wierd that both parties signs were missing. One city in the St. Louis region is actually having city workers take the signs down if they are within 12 feet of the street. I guess it is some sort of ordienance. I am just thinking the city workers need something better to do with their time…like perhaps…move the signs 13 feet from the street instead of taking them down all together!
That’s a dumb ordinance, and it’s a waste of city resources to enforce it.
I’m sure that’s not what’s happened here, because my Nixon for Governor sign (right next to the Obama sign) was left untouched.
