Hard freeze coming tonight, yet still the office air conditioner is on. Why? Why is this so? Can anyone, anyone explain this to me? I’m going to start wearing hose under all of my pants just as insulation. And it’s not even November.
It’s not even November! It’s the last week of October! And yesterday was the second annual Pumpkin Party at my house! We went for pumpkin ice cream (Shakey’s has a great spiced pumpkin dessert in a waffle bowl, if you’re so inclined) and then we carved pumpkins at my house (even my parents did it! And they all turned out so cute!) and then we watched It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! while eating roasted pumpkin seeds. (Healthy and delicious!) I put up Halloween decorations yesterday morning after Tracy and I cleaned the house, and I did several loads of laundry. It was the perfect Sunday, really. I love starting a week with a closetful of clean clothes in a clean house, with a fridge full of food from grocery shopping. It’s awesome.
Saturday was a good day too. I went out shooting in the morning, and ended up getting better pictures than I thought I got, when I looked at them later. And the shooting at dawn in Columbia’s Capen Park moved into shooting at Little Dixie Lake in Millersburg, and then shooting and hiking around Graham Cave State Park near Montgomery City. Then I drove south through Loutre Valley, which is where my grandmother grew up on a farm and is one of the prettiest places in the state. It’s true in the summer, when it is lush and green, and true in the fall as proved on Saturday. Gorgeous color in the trees and lovely light. I swung west again at Highway 94 and drove along the bluffs into Jefferson City, where I managed to meet Tracy for lunch at Cafe Via Roma. It’s where I shot that wedding last month, and it’s really a good little restaurant. Tracy stuck around Jefferson City (she wanted to explore, which she can do now that she has that Garmin device, which she loves) and I went home to nap. At 5:30pm, she was home for the kickoff of the Mizzou Homecoming game. We had managed to mostly avoid the crowds, but both of us put on Mizzou t-shirts for the game on Saturday night, which was not much of a contest. Mizzou destroyed Colorado, 53 to 0. It was just bloody and painful. As Colleen’s notboyfriend said, that was a hard ride home for Colorado. But we enjoyed it. I even built a fire in the fireplace for the first time this year. That was fun.
I love my fireplace. I love it. I had one in college at this place where I worked, and it was so much fun to build fires on cold nights. The smell is one of my favorite parts, and it really lingers in the house. I’m not sure it’s the most efficient heating, but Saturday was just a chilly day when a fire and some blankets were warm enough to keep us comfortable without even turning on the heat in the house.
Anyway, so it was a nice weekend.
