Homecoming and Halloween, Plus My Dog is Currently Fighting the Good Fight Against the Evil Roofers

October 24th, 2008 · No Comments · Endless Blathering, Photography

Woo-hoo!  My roof is getting torn up as I write this, and I hope there’s a new one on by the end of the day.  My hopes might be stymied by more rain, which it looks like we might get a little later.  I assume the roof guys know what they’re doing, though.

New roof, new gutters, new skylight… and they’re putting some kind of ice guard down too.  It will look pretty awesome.  I guess I’m glad I haven’t gotten around to putting up those fancy Halloween decorations that I have, since they hang from the gutters.  I wonder if they’ll have replaced the gutters by Halloween so that I can decorate with my few decorations.

Poor Martha the dog, though.  She’s sitting at home while men stomp across the roof, and it’s very confusing that I would just leave while the property obviously needs defending.  I thought of bringing her to work for the morning, but I have to do some photography stuff later so I already had all my equipment in the car.  Also, I’m not convinced that it’s cool for me to bring my dog to work, even though my boss did it for months.  So she’s stuck at home, probably believing that she’s being attacked by invaders through the ceiling.  Poor puppy.

In other news, I’ve posted a few entries over at the photo site, and I’ve been uploading stuff to Flickr as well.  It’s been a heavy photography month!  And I just agreed to be an assistant and second-shooter at a couple of weddings in the next few weeks, which is very exciting because the primary photographer team is one of the best in the Columbia area, so I know I will learn a lot.  The weddings will probably be pretty fancy schmancy.  The first one is next Saturday in Ste. Genevieve.  That will be a gorgeous drive!  And the plus side is that I don’t have to do any post work on the images I take, so both are one-day events and I’ll have time to do other stuff.  Maybe I’ll stay overnight near Ste. Genevieve and drive back through the mountains for some fall photos!  That should be good timing.  I will see!

It is Homecoming weekend in Columbia!  It should be a chilly but pretty one.  I intend to avoid the downtown and campus areas all day, while heading out to do photos in the morning.  Then I will come back home and, yes, likely watch the game.  It would be nice to see a win after the last two terrible losses.  Yes, this is who I am now.  It’s bizarre, but so help me, this is what Chase Daniel will do to your average Missouri alum.

I am also having family over on Sunday afternoon to carve pumpkins.  We never did that when we were growing up.  I was in college when I carved my first pumpkin, but it’s now something that I do every year, because it’s fun.  And we roast the pumpkin seeds after, which are delicious!  Yay, I like Halloween!  I’m glad that it’s become a holiday for adults as well as kids.  Also, I really like candy.  Holidays with heavy emphasis on candy are good in my book.

And speaking of Halloween, you do realize that you will wake up next Saturday morning and it will be November first, and you’re already behind on your Christmas shopping, right?  Because that’s how this goes.  You get a couple of extra days this year because you’ll be focused on the election, but then after you go to bed on November 4 with President-Elect Barack Obama called at 7pm (knock on wood!  knock on wood!  kina hurra!) when even fucking MONTANA goes blue (Obama’s up four points there in a poll from yesterday), you’ll be expected to wake up and start addressing your holiday cards.  It’s how this goes.

But, til then:
