Tackling the Entire Midwest in 48 Hours

October 7th, 2008 · No Comments · Travel

Whew, I’m exhausted.  It was a good weekend and a fun trip, but I should have taken today off or something.  We left Madison around 4pm yesterday afternoon and arrived home around 1:30am.  I had time to get some sleep, but it wasn’t enough.  I could really use a weekend here.  Too bad it’s over!

I’d been to Madison once before, but I realized that we didn’t spend many daylight hours in the downtown area.  As such, I had not realized how many lakes there are in the Madison area, but I thought that the city was really beautiful.  Yesterday I walked around the arboretum in the morning, drove around Lake Mendota, and then spent some money in downtown Madison.  (I got a Holga!  I was so excited to find a big display of toy cameras at a store in downtown Madison, and it proved too much for my impulsive nature.  I’m looking forward to playing with it.)  Also, we had some awesome vegetarian food at a Madison diner that had a half-veggie, half-carnivore menu.  It was delicious.  We ate there twice!

Before Madison, we were in Chicago for a few hours, and had some pizza, and chatted with one of Tracy’s friends, and then got turned around trying to get on the highway to Madison.  We ended up driving about ten miles out of the way, turning around in front of an IKEA, which caused me to yell, “IKEA!!!  God has sent us here!”  We didn’t stop though.  Maybe on the next trip.

Before Chicago, we were in Kansas City, where there ain’t no party like a family party cause a family party don’t stop!  Well, ok, it did stop around 5pm, and we all hugged and said goodbye and left, and some of us drove to Walcott, Iowa, where we stayed the night at a Days Inn.

And before that, well, that was the beginning of the trip.

So I am tired, and I am ready to go home, and lucky for me it is nearly 5pm and I can go home.  That is nice.
