O-bah-mah… Get Yourself an Education

I DID get out last night for the last Twilight Festival, helping out the Obama campaign.

I walked around with a clipboard, trying to get people to register to vote or update their registrations.  (Last day is October 8, friends!)  I was not that successful, mostly because people had already registered or updated in the campus registration drive.  But people were generally friendly.

I went back to the Obama office, which is right on Ninth Street, downtown, and tried to get people to volunteer for the campaign.  Surprisingly, that was a much more successful effort.  Well, at least I got them to put their names and information down so that they can be harassed by the campaign and guilted into showing up to make phone calls or canvass.  They might regret signing up then, but it won’t be near the kind of pain they’ll feel if they wake up on November 5 facing a McCain/Palin administration, especially knowing they could have helped and they didn’t.  (Hey, Mom, this wasn’t directed at you, btw.)

I don’t want to say I told you so, but Palin is certainly making the arguments for me that I made at the beginning of the month.  She just can’t possibly prove herself less fit for this role, can she?  The Katie Couric interview was a total trainwreck.  It’s as if they’re trying to lower the bar to the absolute ground for that debate next week.  I am sure she will do better at the debate than anyone thinks she could do.  If she manages to avoid the nonsensical answers for most of the debate, she’ll probably impress everyone.  I mean, how could she not do better than we expect at this point?  We expect nothing!

Speaking of debates, did you know there’s one tonight?  Yes, there is!  And McCain will probably do better than anyone thinks he will, as well.  But it’s hard not to after completely fucking up the past couple of days.  What a clusterfuck.  Insanity.

I’m supposed to go watch it with the Obama supporters tonight, though I’m having my usual last minute indecision about attending.  I mean, it would be fun to see it with actual people rather than pretending that socializing and making catty comments online counts as human contact.

I have some photos to do tomorrow and Sunday, but I may go out and help the Jay Nixon campaign this weekend, although the polls seem pretty pro-Nixon at this point.  He’s up by double-digits on every major poll.
