- Article from the New York Times about how great British candy bars are, and I TOTALLY AGREE. I so favor British and Canadian chocolate bars over the American versions. There’s mention in there about the mint Aero bar, which is one of my favorites, though I actually prefer Bounty bars (which differs immensely from the American Mounds bar, as it contains dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate, and I really prefer the milk chocolate with the coconut). I also love British Cadbury chocolate. I can get it in a few stores here- the candy shop in the mall and the World Foods store off Nifong in south Columbia. So I’m good. I try only to get those when I’m absolutely craving them, though. I have been on an American Snickers bar trend for the past few months. I don’t know why that is.
- Article from the New York Times about young, hip librarians. Like me, obviously. But, seriously, I do fit this pattern, and so do most of the people I went to library school with. I am clearly the new generation of librarian: nerdy and intellectual, but into pop culture and completely at home with technology, computers, the Internet. At all the conferences, I see copies of me everywhere. I’ve never felt so part of a community. It’s pretty cool.
- Our new office is SLOWLY coming together. I’m sitting right now in an empty space with my laptop on my knees, using a spare network port with a short cable connecting me. For some reason that doesn’t quite make sense, they aren’t going to fit us out with wi-fi. But we don’t really need it in the office, I guess, since we can anchor to our desks pretty well.
- I am skipping the gym right now because I just want a summer break. Lame, I know. But all the summer weekends fill up so fast with other activities, and I had things I wanted to get done this year. I wanted to do some painting and shop for a new mattress and other stuff, and with no weekend time, it’s hard to get it done. So I’m going to try to get it done in the evenings since it’s light late and I should be spending the time indoors in a productive manner.
- Speaking of scheduled-up weekends, I am so super excited about Saturday, when I am driving up to St. Louis to take pictures of a friend’s newborn baby. Portraits! I’m getting to take some portraits! I did some picture-taking at the family reunion on Saturday, but of course they were grumpy about being in front of a lens (like my family always seems to be) and had to be coerced. But this Saturday’s session will involve Actually Enthusiastic Portrait Subjects, and that is new and exciting. i bought a piece of white posterboard and a white blanket for some low-tech arty backgrounds, and I even glued a bunch of aluminum foil to a piece of cardboard for a low-tech reflector. Exciting. Exciting, exciting, exciting.
